10 Superfoods for Stress Relief
Posted on | August 24, 2009 | No Comments
You are tired, low in energy and desperately need some mental and physical nourishment. You’re stressed. What can you do beyond taking some pills and running for covers? Thankfully, you can relieve stress by eating certain foods and avoiding others.
There are numerous foods you can eat that will help with your stress levels and make you feel better without hardly any effort.
Asparagus
This green veggie is high in folic acid, which can help stabilize your mood. “When you’re stressed, your body releases hormones that affect your mood,” says Geise. “Eating certain vitamins and minerals like folic acid and B vitamins can help keep your mood steady because they’re needed to make serotonin, which is a chemical that directly affects mood in a positive way.”
Recommended Serving Size: 7 spears, 1/2 inch thick, cooked, 25 calories
Beef
Even though beef has a bad reputation, it’s a great dinner option for a stressed-out family. Beef contains high levels of zinc, iron, and B vitamins, which are also known to help stabilize your mood. “People think they should stay away from beef, but it’s very nutrient rich, even compared to chicken,” says Geise. Ask your grocery store butcher for a lean cut if you’re concerned about fat content.
Recommended Serving Size: Scant 1 cup of raw lean ground chunk, 137 calories Scant 1 cup of regular ground beef, 310 calories
Milk
Milk is high in antioxidants and vitamins B2 and B12, as well as protein and calcium. Have a bowl of whole-grain cereal and low-fat milk in the morning to start your day with a stress-fighting breakfast.
Recommended Serving Size: Whole cow’s milk, scant 1/2 cup, 66 calories Two percent cow’s milk, scant 1/2 cup, 46 calories
Cottage Cheese and Fruit
Cottage cheese is high in protein and calcium. Foods with high protein content that aren’t loaded with sugar won’t cause a spike in blood sugar and will keep you satiated for a longer time. Try mixing the cottage cheese with a fruit that is high in vitamin C like oranges. Vitamin C plays a role in fighting stress because it’s an antioxidant that fights the free radicals that get released when you’re stressed. These free radicals have been shown to cause cancer.
Recommended Serving Size: Creamed cottage cheese, scant 1/2 cup, 79 calories One percent fat cottage cheese, scant 1/2 cup, 72 calories 1 orange, 60 calories
Almonds
Are you ever looking for something you can really dig your teeth into when you’re stressed? Try crunching on almonds to get some aggression out. A good source of Vitamin B2 and E, as well as magnesium and zinc, almonds are high in fat, but most of the fat is unsaturated. Like vitamin C, vitamin E has been shown to fight the free radicals associated with stress, and in particular, those free radicals that cause heart disease.
Recommended Serving Size: Shelled almonds, 1/3 cup, 306 calories
Blueberries
Very rich in antioxidants, blueberries offer a high-fiber, low-calorie fruit option that is also rich in stress-fighting vitamin C. Try them with cottage cheese or as a snack on their own.
Recommended Serving Size: Blueberries, 2/3 cup, 30 calories
Tuna
A great lunch option, tuna is high in stress-fighting vitamins B6 and B12. Tuna is also a good low-fat protein source. “Don’t load tuna down with fat by using a lot of mayonnaise,” cautions Geise. “Choose a light mayo instead.”
Recommended Serving Size: Tuna canned in brine, 3.5 ounces drained, 99 calories Tuna canned in oil, 3.5 ounces, drained, 189 calories
Cornflakes or Crispy Rice Cereal
Although they aren’t low in sugar, cornflakes and crispy rice cereal are fortified with B vitamins and folic acid to help reduce stress. Have them for breakfast with milk.
Recommended Serving Size: Cornflakes, 1 cup, 108 calories Crispy rice cereal, 2 cups, 111 calories

Anti Aging Benefits of Dead Sea Salts
Posted on | August 10, 2009 | No Comments
When it comes to stopping the hands of time, Dead Sea salts have been mentioned in literature from the earliest written records. Dead Sea salts are procured from the Dead Sea and offer the highest levels of natural salt of any body of water. When the salt from the sea is collected, the anti aging properties of the salt are considered to be almost heavenly.
Several scientific studies are the corner stone of the anti aging and health benefit claims. Dead Sea salts have been tested with a variety of skin related health conditions, showing favorable results in each test. Psoriasis, for example, seems to health more easily with the use of Dead Sea salt soaks. This skin regenerative property of the salts is behind the claims of anti aging properties and the various Dead Sea salt products available for use today.
The Dead Sea salts contain approximately 21 minerals all thought to exhibit anti aging properties. Of these minerals are magnesium chloride, potassium chloride (KCl), sodium chloride(NaCl), calcium chloride, bromide, sulphates, and water of crystal. The actual sodium content of the water is much lower than that of the oceans of the Earth. Normal ocean water contains 97% sodium chloride, but the waters of the Dead Sea only contain 12 to 18% sodium chloride. The rest of the high salt makeup comes from other salt sources.
When choosing the Dead Sea salts for their anti aging properties, there are two choices for the user. Trips have been set up through travel and health agencies to the Dead Sea for weeks of basking in the waters. Others use the traditional methods of Dead Sea products, namely lotions, baths, soaps, oils and soaks for use at home. Nearly every Dead Sea salt product will be used in conjunction with water, bath time and soaking.
Trips to the Dead Sea can be really expensive; so, many consumers choose to use the available Dead Sea products for home use. The therapeutic and anti aging properties related to the Dead Sea salts provide a renewal for the skin of the entire body and allow daily usage to keep the new and fresh look from fading away over time.
Due to the high levels of magnesium in the Dead Sea salts, the soaks are thought to increase the skin barrier functionality, reduce skin roughness, reduce skin inflammation and possible reduce other inflammations of the body. The skin effects related to the Dead Sea salts combine together to make the skin appear younger and more vibrant, thus the anti aging effects.
Dead Sea salts have been around for many, many years. When looking for products that are authentic to the Dead Sea, make sure the company has a reputable name and verifiable testimonials. Happy clients is the best way to authenticate a product.
For the ultimate in anti aging effectiveness, Dead Sea salt products are one of the few that are available without prescription and have scientific data to back up the claims. The salts of the Dead Salt renew and revitalize the skin allowing all to reclaim that healthful, younger skin look and feel.

Fruit and the memory
Posted on | August 3, 2009 | No Comments
Fruit has a very positive effect on the brains just like carrots. So if you want to stimulate your brain functions then you have to eat much fresh fruit and carrots (raw). Natural sugars are one of the many substances present in fruit and greatly helpful to the health. They stimulate the brain to think faster and recall information more quickly. There are numerous other substances that fruit contains which scientists think they stimulate the brain. How this whole thing works and which substance is responsible for which effect is still unknown as of yet and research is done at this very moment.
Students: improve your exam results!
We would like to tell you more about how students can improve their results by changing their eating habits before they have an exam. Fruit is the ultimate brain fuel!
You can improve upon your test results through simple ways like by changing your eating habits between waking up and doing the exam. The big trick is to consume fruit effectively. Have only fruit but as much as you want before you do your test and avoid the brain blocking foods white flour, refined white sugar, meat and dairy.
Check it out yourself once and you’ll notice that you can think much more clear and faster if you have only eaten the right and light stuff before the exam. Afterwards you can have whatever you want!
Fruit
The effect fruit has on your brain is that it makes you think faster and recall information more easily. This is only an example. There is much more to learn about nutrition. There are some agents that have negative effect on your brains.
Brain blockers
Here is a list of things that have some kind of negative effect on the functioning of the brains:
White flour, especially in combination with cheese. This forms a very sticky substance and sticks to the intestines that costs much energy to digest. Much blood has to be sent to the digestive system so it cannot be sent to your head;
Refined white sugar;
Turkey; it contains a toxic element that has a strong tiring effect, it makes you sleepy;
The combination of proteins (meat) and starch (potatoes). These two foods are burnt in a different way. It will cost your body more energy to burn them together than apart from each other.
